Doug Murray likes to volunteer as much as
he can outside of school. He has to make time to go and volunteer. He mentioned
he doesn’t do it frequently but when he gets the chance he jumps right to it. He
said, “It’s hard finding time to go after school and help but I always find a
way.” Murray has spent a lot of time at Veterans centers and enjoys helping
kids learn how to swim.
Murray cares about other people. It does have
an emotional impact on him. Although it gets to him a lot, the outcome he gets
is worth it. He said, “I’m lucky to be surrounded by my loved ones and have a
home.” Most of the people he meets at the Veteran’s center happen to not be as
lucky as him, so it opens his eyes to be grateful. Since he has been
volunteering for a while, he plans to go to Virginia Tech and be doctor. “Being
a doctor is about helping people,” he said.
Murray is a very thoughtful person and a
great role model. His volunteering makes a huge difference on others’ lives.
Murray’s kind heart and dedication to others makes him a great person to be a
hidden hero.
