Meredith Hutton is an ESL teacher
who has been teaching for 15 years. She went to Grove City College in
Pennsylvania, but got her Master’s degree at Arizona State University. Mr.
Hutton has taught in Arizona and Virginia. She currently works at HVHS. Ms.
Hutton also lives in Roanoke.
Ms. Hutton is a dedicated person. She taught a student that
had never attempted school and was 13 years old, and she never gave up on him.
“He came to school for the first time when he was 13 and he had to learn
English and he also had to learn how to hold a pencil and how to write,” she
said. Ms. Hutton also was an adventures person, She Has been to England,
France, Croatia, Check Republic, Germany, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Indonesia, and
American Republic. She said “the funny thing out of all these countries, I’ve
only had one student that came from one of these countries.” Ms. Hutton cares
about her students a lot. “If I could Dream and start a new job, I think of
opening a coffee shop but I would employ refugees because it’s hard when you
move to a new country to have employments,” she said.
Ms. Hutton is a very caring teacher who loves her students
and the ESL program. Even as a dream job she includes refugees so she can help
them learn English and find a job.
